Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-07-18 · Applies to: Keryx (desktop)
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Keryx, a free, open-source, local-first RSS reader. Please read them together with the Privacy Policy, which explains how the app handles data.
Acceptance of these Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Keryx, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don’t use the app.
What Keryx is
Keryx is free software: no account, no subscription fee, and no server operated by the developer. It runs locally on your device and optionally syncs your data through a cloud storage account you control (Dropbox or Google Drive) — see the Privacy Policy for details on what that involves.
Source code license (MIT) — unaffected by these Terms
These Terms govern your use of the Keryx application. The source code itself is licensed separately and unconditionally under the MIT License (see LICENSE), which already grants you the right to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell the software. Nothing in these Terms restricts or narrows those rights. Bundled third-party libraries are listed, with their own licenses, in THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.md.
Eligibility
You must be legally capable of entering into a binding agreement under the laws that apply to you in order to use Keryx.
Third-party content (RSS/Atom feeds)
You choose which feeds to subscribe to. Article content, titles, and metadata shown in the app are fetched directly from the third-party sources you subscribe to. The developer does not review, control, or endorse that content and is not responsible for it.
Optional third-party services (Dropbox / Google Drive)
If you enable cloud sync, you are also bound by the terms of service of the provider you connect (Dropbox or Google, respectively). The developer is not a party to those services, does not operate them, and has no control over their availability or behavior. See the Privacy Policy’s cloud sync section for what data is involved.
No warranty
Keryx is provided “AS IS”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement — the same disclaimer already stated in LICENSE, restated here in plain terms. There is no guarantee of uninterrupted operation, that any given feed will remain reachable or parseable, or that the app is fit for any particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer is not liable for any damages arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, Keryx.
Changes and discontinuation
Keryx is maintained on a best-effort, volunteer basis. Features, availability, and the app itself may change or be discontinued at any time, without notice and without obligation to continue development, support, or distribution.
Changes to these Terms
These Terms are version-controlled along with the rest of the source code. Their history of changes is publicly visible at https://github.com/shimataro/keryx/commits/master/TERMS.md. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
